Marcelo GIORDAN's experience, Research Professor at ENS Lyon
On The June 2, 2023
Marcelo Giordan, research professor at the ICAR laboratory tells us about his experience with Espace Ulys!
Why did you choose Université de Lyon for your studies/research?
I am a professor at the University of São Paulo (USP) in the field of educational sciences. I collaborate with a well-known researcher in the field of educational sciences and have been in collaboration with her since 2018. That's why I came to Lyon, and also because I love the French culture. Furthermore, ENS Lyon is a very good school, especially if you look at its positioning in university rankings.
How did you hear about Espace Ulys and why did you use our services?
Because it's hard to information on your own. When I went to the to the ICAR laboratory, the secretary advised me to contact the Espace Ulys service. I was impressed because it's very well organized. The service is well-rounded and works well.
What are the advantages, according to you, for foreign researchers/PhD students signing up to Espace Ulys?
The service provides all the information you need to know, it's easier for me to get all this information in one place. It's efficient and the answers are fast.
What advice would you give to future researchers/PhD students coming to Lyon?
Lyon is a very pleasant city, with good public transport, good restaurants, and very friendly markets. For me, Lyon is a small city because I work in São Paulo [an agglomeration of over 20 million inhabitants], but Lyon has the feel of a big city. It's perfect because it allows you to enjoy everyday activities.
According to you, what symbolizes Lyon?
For me, Lyon is a blend of the past and the future. You can see so much history, eat in Lyon's bouchons and learn about the city's history. Then there are neighborhoods like the Gerland district. And also, everything to do with development of cycling lanes for bicycles and scooters, for me it's a futuristic project. This mix makes Lyon a very lively city.
