BREXIT information

The regulations governing the stay of British citizens and their families in France have changed since January 1st, 2021. The formalities to be completed are different depending on the date of your arrival.

Higher education institutions and research labs allowed to deliver hosting agreements and employing British researchers of PhD students now have to issue hosting agreements since January 1st, 2021. A hosting agreement must be issued even if the contract started before this date.

ARRIVALS IN FRANCE SINCE JANUARY 1ST 2021

You must have a visa to enter the French territory.

Scientists and their spouse

Scientists have to apply for a « Passeport talent-chercheur » (talent-researcher passport) visa at the French consulate of their place of residence. The institution hosting you in France has to issue you a « Convention d’accueil » (hosting agreement).
Spouses and children, whether British or from a non-EU country, will have to apply for a « Passeport talent-famille » (talent-family passport) visa, in the context of the procedure of the accompanying family.

PhD students enrolled at a French higher education institution with a French employment contract

PhD students who are enrolled in France and benefit from a French employment contract must apply for a « Passeport talent-chercheur » (talent-researcher passport) visa at the French consulate of their place of residence. The institution hosting you in France has to deliver you a « Convention d’accueil » (hosting agreement).
Spouses and children, whether British or from a non-EU country, will have to apply for a « Passeport talent-famille » (talent-familly passport) visa.

PhD students enrolled at a French higher education institution without a French employment contract

These students must apply for an « Etudiant » (student) visa at the French consulate of their place of residence.
